About Niagara and Fort York

This pocket of downtown stretches from Shaw to Bathurst, beginning from Queen Street, all the way south down to the Lake. Lesser known than many of its neighbours, some consider this ‘in-between’ area just right.

It’s a bit of a mixed bag in this continually transitioning neighbourhood. Less stylish than King West, but more central than Liberty Village, this area has a distinctly more residential feel than its neighbours. Extensive condo development has eliminated many of the original freehold residences, but the few that remain are beautiful. There are great finds and a couple of stunning lofts amongst some of the standard buildings in this area, and prices can vary considerably, so it’s worth chatting with someone who knows. Stanley Park anchors this area, and its massive off-leash dog park is always full of local residents taking pooch for a run.

Adjacent to Niagara (or part of, depending on who you ask) is Fort York, an up-and-coming residential development, aptly named after the 43 acres of green space which envelops a military garrison and is now a protected heritage site. This high-density hood is freshly developed, and is an amazing opportunity to get those stellar Lake Ontario views without the steep price tag.

Who Lives Here

Working professionals, both single and married, many of whom prefer a little greenery but aren’t ready to say goodbye to downtown yet. While the cost of living means residents are generally well employed, you wouldn’t feel awkward leaving the house in sweatpants—bonus!

What's Great About It?

Green space. From Stanley Park, to the lake, to the protected greenery around Fort York, you’re never far from a patch of nature when you need to escape the urban jungle. Less trendy, more friendly is the name of the game here – so say hi to your neighbours!

Schools

There are only two, but they are good ones: Niagara Street Junior Public School and St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary School
