About River Oaks
Variety is the name of the game in this Oakville suburb. River Oaks is bordered by Dundas Street, Trafalgar Road, Upper Middle Road and Neyagawa Boulevard. This is one of Oakville’s more densely populated areas, and it’s easy to see the appeal.
Stunning scenery and top-notch conveniences mean there is a little something for everyone – and this area is still very much in development. Safe and family-friendly, it’s not surprising that this is one of Oakville’s most highly desirable communities for anyone who enjoys an active and elevated lifestyle. Whether you’re hiking or cycling along Sixteen Mile Creek or teeing up at the local golf course, you will never run out of activities to enjoy right close to home. If there was ever a neighbourhood to watch, it’s River Oaks!
Who Lives Here
There is definitely more variety to residents in this area than in much of Oakville. It is one of the larger neighbourhoods in town, and its friendly vibe attracts many first-time homeowners and young families, as well as long-term Oakville residents who have downsized to smaller homes.
Much of the residential area consists of newer homes built from the 1990s to the early 2000s. These structures encompass all housing types, meaning the neighbourhood accommodates all kinds of residents. Condos, townhomes, semi-detached, and detached houses provide a world of options for anyone searching for a new home.
Two and three-storey residences permeate the neighbourhood, complete with front porches that make it easy to take in the scenery, perhaps with a cup of coffee in one hand and a favourite book in the other.
What's Great About It?
The Oakville Heritage walking trail is – without a doubt – the shining highlight of this area, and there are plenty more green spaces, trails, and outdoor activities to love. So many parks and playgrounds give kids the opportunity to have fun outdoors.
Just minutes away, you’ll spot the neighbourhood children playing sports, exploring nature and skating near Millbank Park, Memorial Park, Neyawaga Park, and Oakridge Park. River Oaks also boasts a convenient location, great schools, and some seriously in-demand daycares. Sounds like paradise for a family with kids!
In River Oaks, these streets were made for walking! With so much to see and do, it’s worth taking a moment to slow down and enjoy the view. During your travels, you may as well take the occasional excursion into one of the numerous shops and cafes. Many streets also have bicycle lanes to create a perfect alternative to driving during beautiful weather.
Glen Abbey Golf Course lies just south of the community, which is understandably popular with River Oaks’ high-earning residents. For the nature lover, Sixteen Mile Creek is located in the west, and is a popular place for hiking, cycling, or simply getting out to enjoy the fresh air and scenic views.
River Oaks Community Centre offers a gymnasium, racquetball courts, an indoor running court, and an ice rink. It’s a fantastic place to get out and socialize at any time of year, so it’s no wonder that this is one of the top highlights of the community. With numerous transit stops, River Oaks is also an easy neighbourhood to navigate for commuters. Those travelling by car will have easy access to all three major highways, the QEW, 403 and 407.
The Oak Park Smart Centre is the primary shopping plaza, but there are also a plethora of boutiques, eateries, and services along Trafalgar Road.
