About Streetsville
Streetsville is often called Mississauga’s “Village in the City,” and the area has a definite charm of its own—as well as a strong sense of community. These are a few of the reasons it has long been a popular choice for families. As one of Mississauga’s long established neighbourhoods, Streetsville is home to the largest number of historic buildings in the city.
From Vista Heights to Creditview to Riverview, the area is full of brick heritage homes along its suburban streets. In addition to these historic homes, you’ll find many houses that were built in the 50s, 60s, and 70s (and some newer developments, too).
The roots of modern-day Streetsville stretch back to 1819, when it was surveyed as part of Toronto Township. The development of mills, a trading post, churches, a tannery, and several inns soon followed—and the area thrived. In 1974, this separate village officially joined the City of Mississauga.
Streetsville is bordered by Meadowvale and Central Erin Mills to the west and East Credit to the east. This ideal location means your family can experience the best of everything, indoors and out.
Who Lives Here
Many of your neighbours in Streetsville will likely be empty nesters, some of whom have lived in the area for upwards of 30 years. That said, there has been an influx of younger families, both newcomers and as the result of the generational shift. Who wouldn’t be attracted to the neighbourhood’s natural beauty, with its numerous parks and trails right along the Credit River? Quiet, tree-lined streets and top-rated schools are also a big draw to local families.
Streetsville most definitely isn’t one of those residential neighbourhoods where all the houses look the same. This well-established area is full of unique options—and its location means those who live here are never far from the action.
A varied housing market guarantees a diverse mix of residents, which further adds to the excitement and appeal of the area. There’s a match for every home buyer here—whether you’re searching for your first place or upgrading your family to something with more space.
Fun fact: Streetsville was also home to Hazel McCallion, Mississauga’s longest serving – and much-adored – mayor.
What's Great About It?
Streetsville is located right on the Credit River, with access to scenic views and a host of water activities just steps from home. Imagine paddleboarding, fishing, or hiking along the water—there really are no limits. If you’re brave enough, whitewater canoeing might be your adventure of the day.
A key defining feature of Streetsville is its walkability. No matter where you are, you can access a wide range of amenities without having to fire up the car. Unique shops, tons of restaurants, and other local businesses are all close by—often located in historic buildings that are as exciting to look at as they are to visit.
Convenience is only one of Streetsville’s many claims to fame. Getting around the neighbourhood is a breeze, thanks to local bus service and easy access to the Streetsville GO Station. Let’s not forget about its gorgeous green spaces and parks.
Whether you’re young or just young at heart, there are plenty of opportunities to explore nature, such as Streetsville Memorial Park, Credit Meadows Park, and the David J. Culham Trail. In a city known for fantastic parks, Streetsville truly stands out in Mississauga.
There’s nothing like a festival to bring a community together, and Streetsville is home to some of Mississauga’s best.
- The annual Bread & Honey Festival is one of Ontario’s Top 100 Festivals. With local milling companies offering free bread with local honey, it’s easy to see why residents get excited when this event rolls around. Other festivities like the midway rides, games, and entertainment only add to the fun!
- The Canada Day Parade will make you fall in love with your nation all over again. It features live music, and of course, a fireworks display that will knock your socks off!
- The Streetsville Butter Tart Festival will delight everyone with a sweet tooth every September.
- Fast forward to the winter months, and you have Christmas in the Village to look forward to, complete with a holiday market and horse-drawn carriage rides.
In between events, you’ll find camaraderie among residents as they browse local artisan offerings at the Village Square Farmers’ Market. Year-round activities are abundant along the Streetsville BIA, which also curates numerous events.
The Streetsville Village Square is the heart of the community and home to numerous festivities all year round. This is where you’ll find Murphy’s Ice Cream, which people from all over Mississauga visit to enjoy a delicious and refreshing treat.
Families in Streetsville have the benefit of not one, but two community centres that are full of engaging programs and activities. The Vic Johnston Community Centre is a local favourite that has served the area for decades. Hockey, recreational skating, and a jam-packed social calendar keep everyone in your family busy and engaged. If that’s not enough, the River Grove Community Centre offers a wide range of fitness classes and other sports, such as badminton, basketball, and pickleball.
