Applewood

Applewood is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Mississauga, and it has a rich history. Once home to an abundance of apple orchards, this now-vibrant community was largely rural until the early 1950s. It was then developed by G.S. Shipp & Son, a family business that helped turn the area into an in-demand suburb.

Located in the southeast part of the city, Applewood is just a short drive from both Downtown Mississauga and Toronto’s west end. This close-knit community is made up of three major regions: Applewood Hills, Applewood Heights, and Applewood Acres.

Here, you’ll find many bungalows and two-storey homes, along with a selection of condo buildings and townhouses. Fortunately, given the many public parks and nature trails in Applewood, condo owners won’t be wanting for outdoor space.

With its spacious detached homes, Applewood is very family-friendly. Its safe, quiet vibe makes it ideal for parents with little ones. Move to the area, and your neighbours will likely be families—or single homeowners who have put down their roots.

The strong community feel of Applewood is one of its biggest selling points. Neighbourhood gatherings abound! Specifically, the Applewood Homeowners Association holds community events throughout the year. These include an annual bbq at Westacres Park, which is full of fun activities for attendees of all ages.

Residents enjoy shops along the local strip of Dundas, as well as the Mississauga Chinese Centre. This local attraction features 100,000 square feet of restaurants and retail space (not to mention homages to Chinese culture and architecture). Additionally, close proximity to Mississauga’s city centre—and West Toronto—means residents enjoy quick access to all the conveniences they could possibly need.

In Applewood, you’ll find a fantastic selection of public schools. These include Burnhamthorpe Public School, Silverthorne Public School, Applewood Heights Secondary School, and Glenforest Secondary School, among others.
