About Clarkson

In 1855, the Great Western Railway opened a station in the region we now know as Clarkson. The area grew into a transportation and business hub, and was known for its strawberries. Around 1875, it became known as Clarkson, and the rest is history. The area amalgamated with Mississauga in 1974.

Clarkson is now recognized as an up-and-coming neighbourhood with a lot of potential. It’s not far from prestigious Lorne Park, and you’ll find many large, lavish homes in some pockets of the community as a result. These areas stand in contrast to the remaining industrial sections, which have yet to be fully developed.

Put simply, you’ll find a variety of home types and price points here—including more affordable options. There are many mid-century properties (including split levels) in Clarkson, along with some newer condo buildings. It all depends what you’re looking for!

Who Lives Here

There tend to be a lot of families with kids in Clarkson, though some areas are home to a large number of renters and older adults. Depending on where you live (south or north), your typical neighbour may be blue-collar or white-collar (respectively). What they’ll all share is a pride of ownership and a love of their eclectic community!

What's Great About It?

If you’re part of a Toronto-based couple looking to make the leap to suburban life, this is a great option. The prices here pale in comparison to those in the big city, while quick access to GO transit and spacious backyards make the area well worth considering.

Another bonus? The local BIA is very active, and the area along the lake has a number of options for dining and shopping. As with most Mississauga neighbourhoods, you’ll need a car to get around in Clarkson. That said, the area has a well-situated Go Train station that provides quick access to downtown Toronto—a plus for many professionals looking to move to the suburbs.

Proximity to Rattray Marsh Conservation Area is another major bonus of living in Clarkson. The preserve is known for its pretty boardwalk views and regular bird sightings.

Schools

Elementary options include White Oaks and Clarkson public schools. At the secondary level, you’ll find Clarkson, St. Andrews, and St. Christopher (Catholic). Many local parents also choose to send their kids to nearby Lorne Park.
