Lorne Park
About Lorne Park
In the 1800s, Lorne Park was a resort destination for Toronto’s elite, earning it the reputation of the “Hamptons of Toronto.” Despite its shift to a residential suburb, the community is one of the most affluent neighbourhoods in Mississauga.
The area is beloved for quiet, leafy streets that feature architecturally stunning homes and large, rolling lawns. With Lake Ontario to the south and Richard’s Memorial Park to the east, it’s difficult to find a more picturesque location anywhere in Southern Ontario.
Although there are some relatively attainable pockets with modest bungalows and two-story homes, Lorne Park naturally lends itself to premium real estate and gorgeous custom estates.
You won’t see much commercial development in this highly sought-after neighbourhood, so a car is essential. What you will see is homes straight out of a luxury real estate magazine—and curb appeal to match.
Who Lives Here
Luxury home buyers place high value on two attributes: access to quality education and an abundance of natural beauty. Both of these are in generous supply in the Lorne Park neighbourhood.
This is one of Mississauga’s most luxurious enclaves, and most homes here are fully detached mansions or custom-built houses on massive lots. A few older homes still exist, although many have been remodelled and modernized. Townhouses and semi-detached homes are few and far between, but listings do come up occasionally for the savvy buyer.
Locals tend to stay in Lorne Park for a long time, and many of them have older children who grew up in the area.
That said, there are some subdivisions that are known for their popularity among young families—especially those seeking move-in ready homes. As a prestigious area, it’s not at all surprising that Lorne Park primarily consists of extremely high-earning individuals and families.
What's Great About It?
The environment here tends to be rather peaceful, almost like living in a rural paradise full of wide open spaces and greenery. For shopping and dining, residents typically venture into the nearby Clarkson Village or Port Credit. Downtown Mississauga is also a short drive away, bringing you in close proximity to exciting amenities such as Square One Shopping Centre.
Local parks consist of Jack Darling Memorial Park, Richard’s Memorial Park, the Rattray Marsh Conservation Area, and Whiteoaks Park. However, given the massive lot sizes homes here are known for, residents don’t have to leave their own backyards to enjoy the great outdoors.
This prestigious area has some of the most popular schools in Ontario, which is a major reason so many people want to live here. Then there are the spacious homes. There’s a reason buyers are willing to pay a premium to live in this top-notch neighbourhood, and it has a lot to do with the local properties.
Lorne Park also provides a rare sense of community, making it a great place to live if you have kids. Access to Clarkson and Credit round out the reasons to consider living here, as does the smattering of shops and stores along Lorne Park Road. The south Mississauga location makes it easy to get to Oakville or Toronto, depending on whether you’re travelling east or west. If you prefer not to drive, the Lakeshore GO line offers the most frequent and fastest service to Toronto, with both the Port Credit and Clarkson GO stations within close proximity.
Life in Lorne Park revolves around outdoor recreation. Tennis is a big community favourite, as well as all waterfront activities, from boating and swimming to just strolling or cycling along the shores of Lake Ontario.
Lorne Park Library provides programming for all ages, from children’s story times and teen events to social gatherings for seniors. Fairfields Swimming Club offers lessons, aqua-fitness, synchronized swimming, and a variety of lifeguard training programs.
Annual events in and near the neighbourhood include:
- Lakeshore Art Trail: Every October, this event showcases the creations of local artists. Workshops are also available for those who want to fine tune their own artistic skills.
- Lakeview Farmer’s Market: Enjoy a little live music as you browse the best offerings from local farmers from late spring to early fall. A cafe provides snacks and refreshments to allow you to make a day of it.
- Mississauga Festival of Trees: Get into the festive season with a celebration of trees and a holiday market.
Lorne Park is also near Port Credit Memorial Arena and the outdoor Port Credit Memorial Skating Trail. This scenic loop winds through the park while providing views of the Credit River.
